Bassoon – Marc Engelhardt (University of Music and Drama Stuttgart) 18.-21.05.2017

Born in 1961,  Marc Engelhardt started with the bassoon at the age of 15. After winning several prizes in German competitions, Marc began his studies under Prof. Klaus Thunemann in 1982. Marc then became the principal bassoonist of the Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra in 1986, which is now known as the “Deutsche Radiophilharmonie”.

Marc has played as principal bassoon in most of the leading German orchestras, like the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Sinfonieorchester des Norddeutschen Rundfunks, Kölner Rundfunksinfonieorchester, Sinfonieorchester des Hessischen Rundfunks, Sinfonieorchester des SWR and Bamberger Symphoniker.

As an ensemble player, Marc has performed with some of the best German chamber orchestras from Bremen, Stuttgart, München, Köln and Heilbronn. He was also a member of the Stuttgarter Bachakademie (with Helmut Rilling), Linos-Ensemble, Stuttgarter Bläserakademie, to name a few. As a soloist, Marc has played with the Rundfunksinfonieorchester Saarbrücken, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Wuerttembergisches Kammerorchester, Koelner Kammerorchester and various other orchestras in Russia, Poland and Japan.

In 1993, Marc began teaching at the Hochschule für Musik Saar. In the following year, he took over the position of bassoon teacher at the Hochschule für Musik Stuttgart, received his professorship in 2001 and is now the head of the department and vice-dean of the faculty. Marc has given masterclasses around the world, in the USA, Canada, Russia, Korea, China, Japan, France, Switzerland and Poland. Marc has been a member of the jury of the International C. M. v. Weber competition in Wroclaw (Poland) several times.

Marc’s students hold positions in a lot of German and international orchestras and have won prizes in several international competitions. His bassoon studio at the Stuttgarter Musikhochschule is considered one of the leading classes in Germany.
